Who Flung Poo??
Terrorism; what a common term that has become, it’s part of a catchphrase now, the media's new favorite “Hey watch me!!” catch all word. Someone sets up sniper position and it’s “suspected Terrorist Attack”, or a bank is held hostage during a robbery “Possible Terrorism in your city, tonight at 10”, a traffic signal malfunctions “Potential Terrorist activity on our streets!” The hype is getting to be overbearing, and in truth ridiculous, but it has caused some thought about our stance as a culture about a lot of things. That is what I intend to convey today, so let’s pack up the delivery truck and make some news…
So what is terrorism anyway?
ter·ror·ism
Pronunciation: 'ter-&r-"i-z&m
Function: noun
: the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion
Now that we have that out there, I think the key word is systematic, which implies that there is a bigger goal than the direct result of the act itself. In this, the age of mass destruction, the guerilla warfare tactics that are signature of terrorist acts, are ineffectual and no more than a nuisance to those being assaulted. It seems to me that any state, country, or nation that would attempt to conduct war in this manner are a dieing culture, and the acts of terrorism are nothing more than the death throws of their dieing ideals. The ideals are not dieing because the group being assaulted killed them, they are dieing because it’s a way of life that is outdated and unsuitable to surviving modern methods of living. While history has repeatedly shown no culture goes down gracefully, the culture will still die. And those left behind will either integrate or die along with it. Time and Technology move forward with or without the approval of stagnant minds.
The Tower of Babel did not collapse because the Hand Of God struck it down, the Tower of Babel Collapsed because the builders were grasping beyond their ability to reach. That is what is happening today, small groups of people, who feel slighted for whatever reason, are finding ways to make themselves seem more influential than they are. They will meet with the same result; they will collapse upon themselves due to a weakness of infrastructure. For them to believe otherwise is an act of idiocy that will continue to effect everyone they direct there angst against until the collapse occurs.
I already know I will come under a lot of criticism for simplifying it this way, but in its simplest terms it appears that way to me. And what is worse there seems to be no point here, but then again perhaps that is the point.

Awesome! I liked it. To me, terrorism today is a tool used by the media and politicians to keep us afraid so we will submit to their agenda. There has always been "Terrorism" and always will as long as there is Opression in the world. The new media hype on this word and the persuit to contain it is futile. The more we realize that "War on Terror" is a load of shit and wasting our time and money, the better we will be. You cannot fight Opression, hunger, or disease with guns and bombs.
We are being lied to about this war, and what we are told contradicts history. Why are we worried about nuclear arms in Iran, when it is US that gave them the technology, and it was US who put the Dictator in power? Why are we pointing fingers at Osama Bin Laden (Tim Osmand) when it is US who funded and trained him and his "militia". Time and time again History has reared it's ugly head and shown that all is not what the media tells us.
Pop- thanks :) Personally I think the media's only agenda is to make money...
Heathen-
Guy that takes bomb to building is not a terrorist.. he is a bomber. he is not hoping to use terror to reach a goal, he is hoping ot use a bomb to kill his percieved enemy. Because we are scared we want to say fear was the intent.
Guy siting at camp fire telling scary stories to 8 yr olds - Terrorist. he is trying to scare the kids to achieve entertainment.
the word is misused abused, and has been placed in to the ear of everyone as the "if it effects you negatively it must be terrorism" concept. That is what i was getting at.. not wether or not the fights are legitamate or not. someone targeting a civilian does not enter into the qualifier for the word Terrorist. It may make them a murderer or a nut but it's not relavant to the word in question.
*sigh* had a long comment that lost it...
'acts of terrorism' are just one of the various tactics used in the advancing of a goal by force/coercion...
- guerillas/militia use small mobille forces to counter heavy armies
- countries at war (WWII) bomb civilian centres to threaten each other
- Provos (IRA) use bombs in the centre of London to make their cause known and force govt to act.
- Commie Revolutionaries encourage and support proletariat riot and strike to gain power.
who are terrorist? simply anyone who uses the emotions of the civilians to force action by governments. "terrorists" aren't out to simply terrorise people, they dont feed off fear for fun. they have certain agendas.
~guy bombing military check point - using guerillla tactics to create military/security crisis
~guy bombing shopping centre - evoking public outrage to force change by the government.
i'm not supporting it - just comparing it to its intentions
"When you can kill people en masse, you don't have to scare them with threats."
Big countries with Big armies can and do use terrorism to further their agenda.
Big country sends thousands of bombs and missles to destroy landmarks and buildings, trying to intimidate the leaders into surrendering themselves and to scare the population into submission. --- Terrorism
I guess it all depends on the scale of the attacks. This Current war is a good example of Intimidation by force.
Some media propoganda could also be considered a form of Terrorism. Not an hour, nay, 15 minutes after 9/11 happened, they were hyping up terrorist threats, feeding into our fear and anger. Their intent? not our saftey, not our well being. They want our Anger and Fear they want it so strong so that we can feed this war machine what it wants. They wanted the OK to declare USA Gods of the Earth.
Well, that's my opinion anyways.
