By Any Other Name
Social restrictions on silly ass crap gets on my nerves. Right now the one that strikes me the most annoying is language restrictions; “foul language”. I personally don’t tend to bow to the socially imposed this word or that word is bad, to me it’s a word, used to communicate a feeling or thought or both regardless of the particular letter combination. Shit, crap, poop, ka-ka, turd… they all relate to the same form of excrement that no one wants to think about someone else doing, well unless you are into a certain Ska thing that I would rather not get into here. Grab your rain gear we are heading into the gutter. Oh if this offends you, please comment on why, not “just cause” but really what about it offends.
So why the problem with words like; Fuck, Shit, Damn, Hell, Bitch, and Ass? How did these words get pulled aside and marked as “Profane”? My vocabulary is pretty decent and I see no reason to reduce it by 6 words because some group of morons, who couldn’t define why and are certainly dead by now, were bothered by a few particular combinations of sounds. These words are quite versatile and understood by pretty much everyone that speaks a language rooted in Latin. They relieve a lot of stress for millions every day, could you imagine stubbing your toe and saying something like “Oh darn”, I doubt it… and if you say you do I want to see that, got a hammer right here.
I am not saying everyone should specifically use the words, what I am saying is I don’t see the problem with them other than some social stigma/taboo about them. If you don’t use them, who cares… if I do use them, again who cares, more specifically why do people care? I honestly don’t get it, is it just another power trip the masses of sheep can feel over the individual?
Anyway it’s short today, actually have work to do.. if someone can answer that intelligently minus the “just cause” type answer I really want to hear it. Other comments are welcome as well of course.

Would shit by any other name not stink?

personally, i think its a sign of ignorance when people have to swear every sentance. Fuck = sex.... its just used a lot more.
you wouldn't say sex the sexy sexers - its not funni or suitable.=P
you see, i dont think aussies think bloody, shit, damn, crap hell ass bitch hoe etc are even expletives - its just the precious americans.
it only annoys me when ppl are what i call 'chronic swearers' = need to swear in every sentance, because its cool and its a signifies arrogance and power [in some circles] Friggin A! ust find a new bloody word!
Originated from the upper classes in Britain who heard words spoken by the original inhabitants aka the Anglo-Saxons. They being from Normandy felt that coming from the french meant they were 'better bred'. So they announced that some words were not to be used in "polite" society thereby denoting the class difference.
In every other language there is a denotation of the classes. Language is one way of separating the peoples. Interestingly enough the historic basis can be found that as time went on it was that the 'upper classes' could do and say anything but the middle classes wanting to separate themselves from the lower classes and aspiring to the upper classes espoused the 'rules' of etiquette.
To fight something you have to know about it. Hence I fight the class system.
Therein endeth the first and last boring lesson on why words are deemed to be obscene.
Thanks for commenting on my blog Capt.
Welcome to the rant Alison, I hadn't concidered the middleclass place in all of it ... that makes sense thanks :)
I still think it's stupid (deigning words as unfit) but at least I see the rational (or lack there of depending on your perspective) behind it.
I wanted to comment on more of them but time was not on my side.
