It’s Friday… wow. You know as much as I understand the weekend being cool, no work, no school, no particularly demanding issues, but why the big hoopla? Its still Friday, and a work day. Anyway I already got 3 emails about “your blog isn’t up, what’s your problem?” I have to work! No really, stop laughing … there was actual stuff that needed to be done today when I got in, so I couldn’t get to this first thing like I usually do. When the readers get together and donate 800 or more dollars a week to the Capt. Obvious Writes Foundation I will quit my job and guaranty an article first thing every morning before 10am, I would even work weekends. Anyway today the only thing on my mind today is some crap happening in my personal life around me, not too me but around me. So I am going to rant on Day Time TV. This should be a good read… don’t change that dial (old TV’s had dials not buttons, can you imagine??) the fun is just about to begin, but first a word from our writer.

Day time TV is getting way out of hand, it has turned into an encouraged stalker in the making situation. All these daytime hosts spend their 40 minutes (after time for commercials) trying to develop a personal relationship with their viewers. This is not an easy thing, you would think, since they don’t know all of their viewers. But this is where the term “Target Audience” comes into play. A target audience is a general psychological profile the given item is attempting to appeal to. The favored Target audience is the lowest common denominator. The lowest common denominator, in pshrynk terms, is any particular interest or trait that can be found and appealed to in the largest number of people. A relative example would be, for daytime TV, people who would want to buy a mop, or a better brand of dish detergent. Before someone rails on me for that; why do you think daytime TV is full of those kinds of commercials? Companies spend good money (and lots of it) to find out when they should air those commercials to appeal to the most people likely to be interested in their product. It’s not exactly rocket science.

So anyway back to my point; the hosts of these shows spend their air time trying to convince people that what they are saying is the correct and accepted way to go about things, or approach issues, or resolve stains in your carpet. What everyone who gets wrapped up in this crap starts to believe is that since there are millions of viewers who like this same show surely it must be correct? Or maybe it’s that thing about people getting told what they want to hear… I am not sure, and I doubt any answer is 100%, but the short and sweet of it is: none of it matters! They are appealing to who ever will consistently watch so they can sell ad space and get a paycheck. Whether or not they believe what they are pushing is not relevant, they are doing it for the money. No amount of good deeds, kindness, nor apparent appeal will ever change the fact that money is the core reason what they are doing is getting done.

I understand they make you believe what they are saying or you would probably stop watching them… who wants to watch bullshit degrade? So the fact that they are being watched just proves they are good at their job (job = doing something for money) if all they wanted was to help people, they wouldn’t have a multimillion dollar anything. Sister Theresa wanted to help people, was well known, and had NOTHING of physical monetary value. I can at least respect her, even though I wouldn’t conceive of doing what she did.

If you find yourself doing any one or more of the following:
1. defending a host
2. getting offended at the possibility that I am talking to you
3. considering hunting me down and vandalizing me, or my property

Get help. This is a rant; my view on a general issue I see in the world as a whole. You are not so special as to warrant an article from me all by yourself. It’s not my fault if you fit in this or any other group I criticize. That translates to if you are sending me hate mail grow a nut and post it to the comments instead… I delete hate mail, as it resembles (in quantity and quality) Spam.

Closing thought; TV is TV! Even reality shows aren’t real, they are sit-coms where people are manipulated, instead of scripted, into issues to drive up ratings. Watching it for a laugh and believing it are two different things.

"Sister Theresa wanted to help people, was well known, and had NOTHING of physical monetary value."

I won't go too far with this one, but she was more for Helping "Souls" by converting hindus and islams into catholicism than helping people. There are videos and pictures showing the "hospitals" run by Mother Theresa. They are more like rooms for the dieing.

I recall seeing one video where she is giving bread to the children who recite Catholic vespers but refusing to care for those who refuse to abandon thier beliefs.

The funds raised by her did not go toward the sick and dying. Instead, it went toward building training halls for new Nun recruits.

Anyways, i've taken too much space so I'll leave it at that. I enjoyed again your rant.

Wow I had no idea, see I err also :p.. hehe I should have looked into it better, but it's one of those "heard it so much" I just kinda excepted it... definately not a trait I want to adopt... heh thanks for the clarity I will look into that a bit closer and see if I can find a better example that is familiar... not likely.. but hey effort...

thanks for the insight.

You're welcome. I wouldn't go as far as calling her evil or a Saint. She was a person and she had her own agenda. She was in a sense doing good in her own mind just as you or I.

It is a popular notion that is reinforced by the catholic church that she was a Saint, perfect in all ways. I guess it's just human nature to Push the errors or faults of those we admire or respect under the rug so-to-speak. And of course to demonize those we do not respect and forget about the good deeds they may have done.

Anyways, sorry to send this rant so off topic.

My feelings on TV? I don't watch much of it. And I feel that it is in essence dumbing down our society to a 3rd grade level. Why think for yourself when the TV can tell you how to think? It's outstanding how much useless garbage there is cycling through the Radio waves, in and out of space and through our cable networks.

populator: dont diss ppl like mother theresa because they have a religious agenda. "Religious" people have a right to preach, just like "Secularists" have a right to "offend and accuse" others. I could go on and on - but i'll leave that for a rant sometime...

sorry capt. back to your post...
TV is moving toward the pinicle of exploitation of human idoicy... its probably one of the easiest, most effective way do dull peoples brains from childhood to make them into little clones and slaves of the materialistic world...
...following your usual strain - if we can keep going this way - the exploiters will dispose of the idiots and then revolutionaries can remove the bourgesie - and we can desend into anarchy! woot!

hehe, I don't actually want to get paid for doing this, as it would then become a job.

All-
These articles are Rants, while I attempt to state mostly truths, they stil are slanted biased rants with the sole intention of making people think, I have posted at least one that i can think of that I don't even agree with, but it made people think about it and that is the idea :)

Just a little clarification based on some pings I recieved over the weekend. (removed the original because of a major mistype, I assure you this is still what it was.)

Agendas are like Opinions which in turn are like assholes. Unsolicited ones stink more. *giggle* No really what I mean is everybody has all 3. If you don't have a personal agenda you have no ambition....at all...none...If you don't have an opinion your a mindless zombie. Last but not least if you don't have an asshole, your really really bloated.
